    MARRIAGE

if a couple decides to get married,
it means that they shld be for each other right?
but hor, do they still quarrel during wedding plans?
as in major quarrels like cold war or even to the extend of cancelling the wedding.
    minor quarrels do not count.

    when couples r dating,
    aren't problems solved together?
both parties might have different opinion.
    a few minor arguments.
    it will be solved.

after being together for so long.
    say, around 2 years.
    u are getting married.
    not R.O.M.
    its THE WEDDING DINNER! (customary)
so many cultures on both sides.
even worse when u need to hold 2 dinners.
    n u r not staying there now.
    difficult to prepare.
e.g. 1 dinner in Thai, 1 dinner in M'sia n couple in SG.

    How do u actually plan?
it depends on how grand ur wedding is,
ur budget n the ppl dat u are planning to invite.
scenario: ur wedding is abt 1 year away.
dinner n couple at different location.

    would u start planning now?
    or plan later?
would u plan it together with ur family?
or let ur family plan everything for u?
these are factors that will lead to misunderstandings.
try standing at each parties' point of view.

    different families have different culture.
even worse when its different ethnic or dialect groups.

guy side is letting his dad decide everything.
everytime wife is trying to help out
wana help follow up on certain things
hub says my father will arrange.
in the end, wife feels like hub does not contribute at all.
feels that she's marrying father-in-law instead of hub.
hub is not independent. (tis may lead 2 a break-up)
or else she would b happy that she doesnt need to worry abt anything.

studying this point, i've concluded e following.

    1. hub doesn't noe a single shit abt wad to do for e wedding. just waiting for instructions. all he does is earn the amt of money for the wedding. n set the budget available.

at tis point, we start to question again.
y does the hub act tis way?
is he a male chauvinistic who thinks that it is not part of his duty in planning?
to say he plans financially is not exactly there as he plans on the early stage.
if the hub want to control the financial flow, he shld b involved too.
imagine the amt that can be saved even more during planning if the hub was involved.
wad items to choose. is the price ideal?
wifes usually have great expenses n tend to spend more.
but with the opinion of hubs, expenses go down.
wifes do save as much as they spend tho. =)

    2. father-in-law just wants to plan everything. might b even hub doesnt noe a thing cos his dad just says leave everything to me.

we do retort that its a wedding or the couple, y do u just leave everything to ur dad? take initiative. help ur dad. he might not be as active as ever. do planning with him.

conclusion, there are always at least 2 views on every issue. we tend to overlook the other when we are feeling anger or frustration. do calm down n look at the bigger picture.

anyway, here's a little joke to share. (it's a guy boss)

    Why I fired my Secretary...........

    Yesterday was my birthday
And I didn't feel very well
    Waking up on that morning.

    I went downstairs for breakfast
Hoping my wife would be pleasant and say,
    'Happy Birthday!',
And possibly have a small present for me.

    As it turned out,
    She barely said good morning,
    Let alone
    ' Happy Birthday.'

    I thought...

    Well, that's marriage for you,
    But the kids...
    They will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast
    And didn't say a word.
So when I left for the office,
    I felt pretty low
    And somewhat despondent.

As I walked into my office,
    My secretary Jane said,
    'Good Morning Boss,
    And by the way
    Happy Birthday ! '
    It felt a little better
That at least someone had remembered.

    I worked until one o'clock ,
When Jane knocked on my door
    And said, 'You know,
It's such a beautiful day outside,
    And it is your Birthday,
What do you say we go out to lunch,
    Just you and me.'
    I said, 'Thanks, Jane,
    that's the greatest thing
    I've heard all day.
    Let's go !'

    We went to lunch.
    But we didn't go
    Where we normally would go.
She chose instead at a quiet bistro
    With a private table.
    We had two martinis each
And I enjoyed the meal tremendously.

On the way back to the office,
    Jane said, 'You know,
    It's such a beautiful day....
We don't need to go straight back to the office,
    Do We ?'

    I responded,
    'I guess not.
What do you have in mind ?'
    She said,
    'Let's drop by my apartment,
    it's just around the corner.'

    After arriving at her apartment,
Jane turned to me and said,
' Boss, if you don't mind,
I'm going to step into the bedroom
    For just a moment.
    I'll be right back.'
    'Ok.' I nervously replied.

She went into the bedroom and,
    After a couple of minutes,
    She came out
Carrying a huge birthday cake ...
    Followed
    By my wife,
    My kids,
    And dozens of my friends
    And co-workers,
    All singing 'Happy Birthday'.

    And I just sat there...

    On the couch...

    Naked.
